Biography

Terra, (Gregory Tererai Mapfumo) born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, is a 21 year old recording artist from East London who came to the UK at just 5 years old.. His music (which sprouted from Grime) is now predominantly in the urban hip hop, rap and electro genre’s and has been compared to the likes of Daft Punk, Drake and Tinchy Stryder who are all vividly different in their talents.

In 2003 Terra picked up a pen and wrote his first ever lyrics, like many do, he was in the youth clubs and on radio stations battling or freestyling with peers just as a hobby. He began making music in 2005 where he recorded his debut vocal in the studio called “Who Is It”. He compiled a mix CD later called “The Kid in Me” which he gave out in school and on the streets for a small fee, this grabbed listeners instantly and made them realise the talent that was waiting to be unleashed. Practising constantly on new ideas and song topics, growing older as well strengthened his ability to be versatile on a tack. Following In his big brothers footsteps (who was in a crew called ‘Kamikaze’) by following him to radio jams and studio sessions meant MCing alongside D Double E, Footsie and Sharky Major as at only 14 made him want this even more.

In 2006, Terra appeared on TV (Channel U) for the first time with a team called “Red Hot” consisting of 5 very close friends and this track “Baby Girl” produced by Naughty Grammar  play listed at number 5 in the Channel U charts for 6 weeks running. Making music with his peers at the same focusing on his solo career, Terra was making song after song and his fan base was increasing as the weeks passed. Terra started performing in 2008 at various venues in and out of London. After good reactions from crowds in cities such as Coventry, Northampton, Leister and more he found himself in a position he always dreamed for but the chase was still on. Featuring on the smash hit “Junior Spesh” opened even more doors as he gained publicity from BBC radio stations, Channel 4, online bloggers, magazines and very iconic Dj’s.

in 2010, Terra became a Solo artist & left the group Red Hot to embark further in his own career. His debut music video “Ying Yang” which has won many more fans and the support he’s received has been inspirational. With over 25,000 online hits in less than a week the track is definitely an ear grabber. Performing the song at a number of events has also helped his confidence and boosted his skills away from the rapping but as a performer. Terra says “performing is the best part of this job for me, knowing that an audience or mass crowd are enjoying something I’ve created…is just amazing“.

With many more videos, singles and CD’s to be released Terra is definitely one to watch out for.
